The assertion isn\u2019t supported by studies by <a href=\"https:\/\/the-media-leader.com\/where-did-the-money-go-guardian-buys-its-own-ad-inventory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Guardian<\/em><\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accc.gov.au\/media-release\/accc-releases-preliminary-report-into-google-facebook-and-australian-news-and-advertising\">Australian Competition &amp; Consumer Commission<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mondaq.com\/france\/x\/796724\/Antitrust+Competition\/Competition+Newsletter+March+2019\">French Competition Authority<\/a>, or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/ld201719\/ldselect\/ldcomuni\/116\/116.pdf\">UK House of Lords<\/a>. And even the cited \u2014 and admittedly idealized and optimistic \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmediaalliance.org\/statement-cairncross-review\/\">Cairncross Review<\/a>\u00a0doesn\u2019t get there (see pages 60-61).<\/p>\n<p><em>The Syracuse<\/em>\u00a0(New York)\u00a0<em>Post-Standard\u00a0<\/em>noted in a recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/opinion\/2019\/06\/end-google-facebook-free-riding-on-news-editorial.html\">editorial<\/a>\u00a0that they and fellow publishers often see nowhere close to the CCIA-cited 70 percent share.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Schruers is just doing his job. But it should be obvious to everyone that, as currently structured, the digital ad marketplace doesn\u2019t work for news publishing and doesn\u2019t support quality journalism. Pretending that it is somehow actually a boon for publishing not only isn\u2019t credible, but is really just another way of not talking about the real
