Danielle Coffey, President & CEO of the News\/Media Alliance, appeared on ABC 10News San Diego on August 8 to talk about the need to pass the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA) and the Alliance’s new video ad<\/a> calling for support of the bill.<\/p>\n

A new ad campaign from the News Media Alliance, which represents publishers, is trying to drum up support for proposed legislation that would force big tech companies to compensate news outlets for their content.<\/p>\n

The 30-second commercial says the \u201cbig tech cartel\u201d has monopolized access to news and forced outlets to play by their rules while driving California newspapers out of business.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur dominant distributor reaps the benefit and the revenue off of our content by keeping our content, repackaging it to our readers but on their platform so that they generate the revenue,\u201d said Danielle Coffey, News Media Alliance CEO, in an interview from Washington.<\/p>\n
