All of the Senators were in agreement that FOIA needs work. They discussed that despite a decrease in FOIA requests, there has been an increase in backlog, as well as the incredibly long agency response time. The Alliance\u2019s coalition partner Open the Government submitted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openthegovernment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Open-The-Governments-Statement-for-the-Record_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #2f7de1;\">statement for the record<\/span><\/a> that highlighted some of FOIA\u2019s serious issues and potential solutions, including providing agencies resources and maximizing affirmative disclosures.\u00a0\u00a0The statement also points out how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmediaalliance.org\/doj-foia-guidelines-call-for-more-transparency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #2f7de1; text-decoration: underline;\">DOJ\u2019s recent FOIA guidelines<\/span><\/span><\/a> do relatively little to help the issues FOIA requesters are facing, despite taking over a year to release the memo.
